New Zealand Tourism's Driving Forces:

New Zealand's domestic and international tourism is shaped by many forces. We experience these forces today, but what forces will drive tourism in the future - in 2050?

Driving forces operate locally as well as globally - they may also overlap and influence both supply and demand. These forces examine current and future political, economic, social, technological, economic and legislative factors. The future shape of these forces represent possibilities deduced from many different trends and behaviours: they are not to be regarded as forecasts. Some of these forces may seem extreme and others, in contrast, benign. The scenarios being developed from these forces will balance these contrasts to further differentiate possibilities for the future of Tourism in New Zealand. Planning without a perspective of the future is like pouring coffee without a cup! It can cause a lot of mopping up!

The drivers are based upon a hierarchical structure to demonstrate interrelationships and dependencies - i.e. how wealth and demography influence tourism attitudes and beliefs.
